Types of motorcycle insurance cover
Motorcycle insurance (or motorbike insurance) is type of policy which offers different levels of coverage that help protect the rider, the motorcycle itself, and others involved in the event of accidents, damage, theft, or other incidents. Seems simple? That’s because it is.
We provide cover for a wide range of different motorcycles, including:
- Standard motorcycles
- Adventure motorcycles
- Sport motorcycles
- Choppers
- Bobbers
- Custom motorcycles
- Classic motorcycles
- Multi-bikes
Once we know which type of motorcycle we're helping you insure, our team can then look to help you find a specialist, tailored policy that provides the best possible coverage for your vehicle.
Then, it's up to you to decide which level of cover you'd like your policy to provide. Generally, you can also expect insurers to provide three different levels of motorcycle insurance. These are:
Third Party
The most basic level of cover and the minimum level you’re required to have by law. This Only covers for damage and injuries that’s caused to others by you.
Third Party, fire and theft
Covers you if your bike is stolen, damaged by fire or damaged following a theft attempt. This won’t cover the costs of repairing or replacing a bike if you’re the one that caused the accident.
Full comprehensive
The most sizeable cover option, covering damage to your motorcycle and any third party, should it be your fault, and for any damage caused by thefts or fires. Replacement bikes are paid for too, if yours was written off.

What’s one thing I could do to decrease the cost of my motorcycle insurance premium?
"There's several things you can do. You can reduce your annual mileage or install a Thatcham approved security device. You can store your motorcycle or vehicle in a garage and let your insurer know. I would review the market value of the bike, so you can make sure your premium correctly covers the vehicle's value. You can also add a voluntary excess, as long as you can afford it if you were to need to make a claim."

Motorcycle insurance FAQs
Do I need motorcycle insurance?
If you ride on public roads, yes, you’ll usually need motorcycle insurance by law. It helps protect you if your bike causes damage or if you're involved in an incident. Even if you only ride occasionally, having proper cover gives you reassurance every time you head out. It's a simple way to stay safe and legally compliant.
What does motorcycle insurance cover?
Motorcycle insurance can cover things like damage to your bike, injuries to others and theft, depending on the level of protection you choose.
Some policies also include fire damage or support after an accident. It’s worth checking your policy wording so you know exactly what’s included. That way, you can ride with confidence knowing your essentials are covered.
How can I get cheaper motorcycle insurance?
There are a few ways to reduce what you pay for motorcycle insurance. Keeping your bike secure, limiting your mileage or choosing a smaller engine size can make a difference. You might also benefit from building up a no claims history over time.
Simple adjustments can help keep costs down while still giving you the cover you need.
